FAQs

What is the Tranche Scholarship?

The Tranche Scholarship is an annual award of approximately $15,000 AUD awarded to emerging Australian wine and hospitality talent.

What can recipients spend the scholarship on?

The intention of the award is to enable recipients to develop their skills and interests both domestically and abroad. Depending on the recipient, the scholarship could be spent on educational travel and development opportunities that complement their interests, such as:

Travel and accommodation to Europe for vintage and/or producer visits.

Travel and accommodation in London to support work experience in leading restaurants.

In addition to the financial contribution to the travel, The Tranche Directors and Advisors will assist scholars, where possible, in securing appointments, visits and meetings during their travel.

What can’t recipients spend the scholarship on?

The scholarship is for educational travel and is not intended to be used for educational fees such as WSET or the Master of Wine Programme.

Who can apply?

We are looking for applicants who are bright, engaging, enthusiastic and talented individuals with a clear vision for their future. Age is not a barrier, although it is intended for those in the earlier stages of their career.

What is expected of scholars following the completion of their travel?

The scholar is required to submit a report following the competition of their trip. It is also an expectation that scholars act as future ambassadors for the Tranche Scholarship. The travel must be undertaken within the following calendar year.

What is the selection process?

  1. Applicants are required to complete the application form, which will include a number of short answer questions about their background, experience, plans for the future and how they would use the funds if successful. Applications will be open via the Tranche website from July 1 2023 and must be submitted by Friday July 28 2023.

  2. Applicants are also required to submit their CV and provide at least one reference from within the wine and/or hospitality trade. Applications are then reviewed by the Tranche Directors and Advisors and shortlisted. Once the shortlist is announced, the finalists are flown to Adelaide for final interviews and the Finalists’ Dinner.
